MHCCF's Anti-Racism Statement

The Mental Health Counselors of Central Florida (MHCCF) is an organization that promotes advocacy, education and service and there is no better time than now to act upon these values. MHCCF would like to share our Anti-Racism Statement.

We acknowledge the pain, suffering and aggression the Black community has unjustly endured. The senseless acts of violence on Black community will not be tolerated. MHCCF is calling members to take action as the mental health advocacy group we are and work in solidarity with those working towards racial justice. It is our duty to protect the Black community’s rights and stand together against these violations of human rights.

Choosing to ignore this issue has long remained a luxury of those who are not faced with this reality as part of their daily lives. It is time for all of us to see the insidious ways our culture has chosen to demean, demote and deny equality to our colleagues because of the color of their skin. We must face racism head on as a systemic issue that perpetuates discrimination. This is the time to learn and a time to act to promote equality for the marginalized without apology.

Your MHCCF board is committed to not only acknowledging the unimaginable plight of our communities of color but believe it is our responsibility to take active measures to ensure every voice and perspective is represented at every level within our organization. We commit to excellence in the quality of care to the under-served. We pledge to continually seek equal representation in educational material and chair positions while championing a call to increase diversity.

As part of our action plan, on Saturday, June 27 at 11 AM we will be hosting a virtual event to promote cultural awareness along with the Central Florida Assocation for Marriage & Family Therapy (CFAMFT). We implore you to make attendance a priority and mark your calendars now. This is a time for you to explore your own discomfort, broaden your beliefs, and challenge your peers to stand in solidarity with our communities of color. Details and registration for this event will be released in the coming days so please be mindful of your email.

Be encouraged and know your voice matters, MHCCF! Simply stated, silence is complicity. We must speak up. We partner alongside our neighboring mental health group, the Central Florida Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (CFAMFT), in saying that while we cannot do everything we are accountable to do something. While not all inclusive, the items below offer options to get us started on the path towards racial justice:
