The purpose of this presentation is to introduce clinicians to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) by providing foundational knowledge on this evidence-based clinical intervention. Attendees will learn about the development of DBT by its founder, Marsha Linehan, including her personal challenges that informed her clinical work. Attendees will also learn about the clinical populations that can benefit from DBT, how DBT differs from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the core features of DBT as a therapeutic intervention, and how to get more follow up training as a DBT practitioner.


Learning Objectives  

1.  Attendees will learn about the history of the development of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as a therapeutic intervention by including a background of founder Marsha Linehan.


2.  Attendees will outline the core features of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as a therapeutic intervention including clinical populations that can benefit from this intervention and how DBT differs from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).


3.  Attendees will be provided with resources on how to get further training to enhance competencies in providing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to the populations that they serve.


MEET OUR SPEAKER

Ritu Anand, LCSW has over 15 years of experience working in a variety of nonprofit environments with diverse populations, including immigrant families and adults, children with disabilities, college students, families experiencing domestic violence, and adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. Ritu also has a background as a clinician, trainer, and supervisor in the fields of Community Mental Health and Crisis Intervention. Ritu is a new business owner and the founder of Creative Healing Collective, LLC: www.creativehealingcollective.net
