TOPIC: Veterans’ Self-Identity Development (VSID) Theory

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the transition process for veterans
  2. Understand the identity phases military member and veterans experience
  3. Understand how counselors can help veterans with transition issues

The presentation offers a theory explaining veterans’ transition out of the military and the changes this transition has to their self-identity. The presentation provides insight into the differences between military and civilian life from the perspective of veterans.


Juan Gonzalez holds a master’s degree in public administration and a doctorate in industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology. Juan teaches psychology as an assistant professor and oversees the graduate I/O program at the University of the Incarnate Word located in San Antonio, TX.  He has been teaching at the college level for nearly twenty years. Juan served in the Air Force for ten years before being honorably discharged. Juan’s research focuses on veterans’ transition issues and employment challenges. He remains active in serving the veteran community and assisting veterans with their transition back to civilian life.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION:


MHCCF meets on the third Friday of every month, except for July and December. Unless otherwise specified, our meetings are held at All Saints Church, 338 E Lyman Ave, Winter Park, Fla., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the program from 9 to 10:30 a.m.


It is free to attend MHCCF’s monthly meetings; however you must be a paid, professional member of MHCCF to qualify for 1 CEU. Active professional members of MHCCF are required to sign in and sign out at each meeting to receive a CEU. Please have your license number available upon check-in.


To become a member of MHCCF, please visit our website at mhccf.com and select the “Join Us” tab, or, sign up during networking & registration (8:30-9 am) at our monthly meeting. MHCCF accepts credit card or check payments at the door. We do not accept cash payments.
