TOPIC: Hoarding, Separating Trash From Treasures

Hoarding is an ‘invisible disorder’ that often goes unnoticed. A friend or community member often is the first to seek help for an individual struggling with hoarding. However, it is often not until a crisis do individuals get help for hoarding. About 2 -5% of the general population qualify for a diagnosis of clinical hoarding. Screening and assessment by mental health professionals and community agencies can lead to early intervention before hoarding behaviors lead to crisis situations.

(1) Participants will be able to accurately diagnose Hoarding Disorder.

(2) Participants will be introduced to strategies for the accurate assessment of Hoarding Disorder.

(3) Participants will learn about the cognitive-behavioral model for the treatment of Hoarding Disorder.
