TOPIC: Veteran's Panel
The presenter, a military veteran, will introduce you to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and discuss a wide range of the difficulties facing service men and women as they struggle to reintegrate back to civilian life. This workshop is intended to explore the various forms of PTSD and the traumatic events that cause it. We have assembled a panel of veterans from across multiple branches of the military and representing a variety of work experiences in order to give private sector MH counselors an opportunity to gain valuable insights first hand and unabated.
This is intended for high audience participation and attendees should come prepared to ask questions. The panelists will be prepared and expected to speak openly and truthfully of their military experiences.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1) Explore the complexity of PTSD through first hand accounts
2) Expose the stigma behind veterans seeking MH therapy
3) Help civilian therapists speak the language of their military patients
