SPEAKER: Dr. Laura Harden
Dr. Harden is board certified in General Psychiatry. She graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Harden attended residency at the Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina program in Columbia, SC. She is available for psychiatric consultation, evaluation and medication management. Dr. Harden has experience with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and many other psychiatric conditions. In addition, she has a strong interest in multiple types of therapy including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and interpersonal therapy.
TOPIC: Enhancing Mental Health Through Wellness
This meeting will provide education regarding the use of wellness factors such as exercise and mindfulness in the treatment of mental health patients. The lecture will include some specific tools that can be utilized by providers to help encourage wellness in their patients. There will also be open discussion and problem solving regarding resistance from patients to initiating these activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. To understand the difference between reduction of illness and achievement of wellness.
2. To be able to identify 5 common themes of a good wellness program
3. To be able to locate resources to provide patients interested in wellness
4. To consider and understand obstacles or limitations to wellness that patients might have
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
MHCCF meets on the third Friday of every month, except for July and December. Unless otherwise specified, our meetings are held at All Saints Church, 338 E Lyman Ave, Winter Park, Fla., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the program from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
It is free to attend MHCCF’s monthly meetings; however you must be a paid, professional member of MHCCF to qualify for 1 CEU. Active professional members of MHCCF are required to sign in and sign out at each meeting to receive a CEU. Please have your license number available upon check-in.
