Presentation Summary:

Abstract Summary: Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy is an a-theoretical orientation based on the principles of Eriksonian and Jungian Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis allows you to bring unconscious thoughts and beliefs into conscious awareness by inducing a trancelike state. Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based intervention that can serve the needs of individuals, couples, and families alike.

Synopsis of Program:

Most relationship problems can be attributed to individuals not realizing how their past experiences and belief systems are connected to the present situation. Hypnosis assists practitioners and clients alike to access the unconscious roots to presenting problems and symptoms and allows those memories into conscious awareness. This allows clients to increase their self-awareness and strengthen insight into behavior patterns.

Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based methodology that can be utilized with individuals, couples, and families. Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy is an a-theoretical orientation based on the principles of Eriksonian and Jungian hypnotherapy. This means that any theoretical orientation a practitioner may use can be integrated with the principles of hypnotherapy to provide healing and resolution for those who struggle with trauma.

Many mainstream treatments for addressing trauma are based upon the founding principles of hypnosis (EMDR, ART, etc.). However, hypnotherapy remains uniquely equipped to help patients deal with complex traumas that can otherwise be very difficult to address with talk therapy alone. One hour is not enough time to debunk all the myths surrounding hypnosis that has been portrayed through various medias, yet this introduction will clear up some basic assumptions of the subject.

During this presentation, attendees will learn about the role the unconscious mind plays in the psyche as well as how trauma is created and maintained. They will also learn about the trance-states that each of us unconsciously engages in daily. From this foundation of understanding we will discuss specific tools to help therapists address and improve the traumatic symptoms in their clients and how they can learn more.

Learning objectives:

  • Attendees will demonstrate an improved knowledge of the unconscious mind and the role it plays in healthy and unhealthy mental functioning.

  • Attendees will demonstrate an understanding of the roots of trauma and how that influences and is reinforced by relationships.

  • Attendees will learn how to apply hypnotic principles to their style of therapy, in order to improve the way in which they address trauma in their patients.

Speaker Bio:

Jesse Lyon, MS, LMHC began his work in hypnosis in 2015 in an attempt to better help individuals break past their emotional bonds and live life to their full potential.  Through the success in hypnosis, Jesse continues to utilize an integrative approach of Ericksonian and Jungian hypnosis. Jesse has addressed issues from smoking cessation to childhood trauma and PTSD by utilizing a collaborative, self-guided modality.

Zac Dodson, MA, LMHC is certified with the Florida Department of Health’s 491 board to certify Clinical Hypnotherapists.

Most of Zac’s experience comes from working in the areas of trauma from both sexual abuse and assault as well as military related PTSD. Zac has experience helping people work through many difficult issues, but he has most of his experience and training in the areas of Trauma/PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Anxiety/Stress, HIV/AIDS, ADHD, Substance Abuse, and other Addictions. Zac has worked extensively with people affected by the Pulse shooting. It was through this work (and years of work with Military PTSD) that his idea for T-FH arose.
