MHCCF  is pleased to offer a day long training to support the continuing education needs of our members and our professional community.  Dr. Bob Decker will provide members training in Ethics, Medical Errors, and Domestic Violence in advance of the upcoming March 31, 2013 license renewal deadline.  Scroll down for more information on the training agenda, fees, and course descriptions.

Course Descriptions:

Ethics for Mental Health Professionals (3 hours)

Ethics for Mental Health Professionals is a three hour workshop designed to provide attendees with an overview of ethics in mental health counseling, theories, ethical decision making models and updates.  Part one will provide participants with a history of ethics and decision making theories within the profession.  Part two covers the ethical standards within the profession, a model for doing ethics and distress and/or impairment.  Part three covers issues of confidentiality, payments, records, updates and current issues.  The workshop is designed to meet the requirements of the 491 Board for the ethics requirement. 

Preventing Medical Errors (2 hours)

Preventing Medical Errors for Mental Health Professionals is a two-hour workshop designed to provide attendees with a definition of  medical errors in the mental health profession, factors that impact the incidence of errors, recognizing error prone situations and error prevention to maximize client safety and as an element of professionalism.  Attendees will learn the most common reasons for medical errors for mental health professionals, the types of errors and how to identify them and the major steps in root cause analysis.  The workshop is designed to meet the requirements of the 491 Board for the medical errors requirement. 

Domestic Violence (2 hours)

Domestic Violence for Mental Health Professionals is a two-hour workshop designed to provide attendees with a historical overview of domestic violence and how those attitudes may still affect current behaviors, look at definitions surrounding domestic violence and how they are evolving in current culture, and explore some interventions and strategies for counseling victims of domestic violence.  Due to the emotionally charged issues long-term exposure to victims of domestic violence may lead to burn-out in counselors.  The presentation will also look at way counselors can take care of themselves and avoid burn-out.  The workshop is designed to meet the requirements of the 491 Board for the domestic violence requirement.


Bob Decker, Ph.D., NCC, LMHC, is an Approved Provider of Continuing Education Units for the Board of Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), Certified Master Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), and Licensed Mental Health Counseling (LMHC).  Provider # 50-240, Expires March 31, 2013.   Other professions may qualify under reciprocation agreements.   Please inquire prior to training if you are unsure of eligibility.
