Presentation Summary:
Rosario Ortigao will discuss and attempt to demonstrate “Dual Attunement". To David Grand, PhD, the developer of Brainspotting, “The client is like the head of a comet (…) the moment the therapist thinks they know where the comet is going, they fall out of the tail. The client leads and the therapist follows. (This) is the immutable rule of attunement” (Brainspotting, p.58). The importance of the therapist engaging the client in a trusting relationship, maintaining eye contact, listening carefully and intently, and the fact that that helps facilitate the brain-body focus of the Brainspotting eye positions and processing (p. 63), will be conveyed. “When a person is attending to two different things at the same time, the brain is more open to change” (p.65). “This reflective listening can help heal both the soul and the brain, if provided consistently and for long enough" (p.67).
Learning Objectives:
1. To learn the definition, some of the processes, and neurophysiological nature of Brainspotting (BSP)
2. Learn to notice clients’ eye positions and inherent healing
3. Learn about the power of Therapist-Client's attunement
