Workshop Description:

What if expanding your cultural competence started not with answers, but with the courage to ask thoughtful, human questions? As therapists, we strive to create safe, affirming spaces for clients—but meaningful conversations about race, identity, and culture don’t happen by accident. They require intention, skill, and presence. That’s where broaching comes in. This dynamic workshop invites you to experience the Human Library—a powerful model where individuals act as “living books,” sharing personal stories to dismantle stereotypes and spark authentic dialogue. Paired with the Broaching Framework, this approach offers a practical, heart-centered path to deepening your cultural responsiveness in clinical work. Through personal reflection, guided discussions, and hands-on practice, you’ll develop greater confidence in broaching topics of race, culture, and identity—and leave with tools you can immediately apply in session.

What You’ll Gain:

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

1. Increase self-awareness of your own cultural identities, biases, and assumptions.

2. Understand and apply the Broaching Framework to initiate and sustain culturally sensitive conversations in therapy.

3. Engage with the Human Library model to witness firsthand the power of storytelling in breaking down bias.

4. Strengthen your clinical skills through role-plays and real-world broaching scenarios.

5. Practice cultural humility as a lifelong commitment rooted in empathy and ongoing self-reflection.
