Presentation Summary:
This 60-minute clinical training introduces mental health clinicians to the ethical and trauma-informed integration of inner child work when treating adult women. Designed for therapists working with high-functioning, emotionally guarded, or over-responsible clients, the course explores how early relational wounds and adaptive protective strategies often present in adulthood.
Grounded in attachment theory, narrative therapy, and somatic awareness, this training helps clinicians identify inner child themes without encouraging regression or emotional reenactment. Participants will learn how to differentiate between protective parts and unmet developmental needs, assess readiness for inner child interventions, and apply reparenting language in a way that supports nervous system safety and client autonomy.
The course also emphasizes clinician self-awareness, ethical pacing, and cultural context, recognizing how generational strength, identity, and survival narratives influence both client presentation and therapeutic process.
This training is instructional in nature and does not include personal therapy or experiential processing.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Identify common inner child wounds and protective strategies in adult women.
-
Differentiate between adaptive protective parts and unmet inner child needs.
-
Apply at least two trauma-informed inner child interventions in clinical practice.
-
Assess client readiness and affect tolerance before introducing inner child work.
-
Integrate ethical considerations and clinician self-awareness into inner child interventions.
